Welcome to The Lost Arts! I’ve been working behind the scenes to bring you something extra special. If you’re receiving this email that means you’re already subscribed to my free weekly newsletter. What is it? (pours coffee) I’d love to tell you.

A few years back when everyone I knew started joining Substack, I didn’t find myself compelled to upgrade to paid content. The paid newsletter space is still finding its footing and evolving. It will likely change a lot in the next five years, but my initial impression was skeptical.

Then my friend Elise launched her newsletter. It blew me away and, overnight, changed my opinions about paid newsletters. Each one is packed with original images. They are photo heavy, comforting to read, not too long and not too short. It feels like old-school blogging (in all of the good ways). After seeing her vision, I started to seek out more newsletters that inspired me, still I found very little that scratched that same itch and as a result, I knew what type of newsletter I needed to produce: something visual, cozy and chatty. A feel-good-space themed on creativity

A few months later we took a trip to Italy together and between a conversation on a patio and another conversation on a train, she convinced me to launch this newsletter. She could already see it in her mind and pretty soon I could too. By the time my plane landed at home I had six months’ worth of content ideas scribbled in my journal.

Here’s what my newsletter will be…

Curious & Cozy

As the name suggests, my newsletters will focus on supporting and growing your creative side. I’m an optimist who is obsessed with learning. I’ll share current fixations, daily joys and an emphasis on trying something new. There is always more to discover!

A Visual Feast

I want to pack each newsletter full of photos, art, and design. It will be filled with the types of things I obsess over and am inspired by. I love stuffing my brain with inspiration to an extent that feels greedy and indulgent. I can’t wait to share this with you.

Creativity-Focused

Quotes, collages, musings, things that light me up and make me feel challenged. Most everything in life can be a little more creative. One of my fears for my generation is that people are losing their curiosity. It’s important to keep those lights on.

Stories & Essays

I love a life lesson or a letter to a past self. One of my guilty pleasures is I've been writing my memoir (mostly for therapy, but then it got fun). It's unhinged and I never plan to publish it, but there are things that rise to the surface during all that reflecting that would be fun to share. Life is short, but it's also long and we have the capacity to become so many different versions of ourselves along the way.

Writing Updates

I’ve spent three years learning to write novels and it can be lonely work. I’ve learned that it oscillates between good-lonely (the introverts dream) and bad-lonely. It's not a subject that most people can relate to and when I try to talk the wrong person about writing fiction it makes me feel even more alone. I think this newsletter will be a good space to occasionally go really deep. I've done a lot in my career and this is, by far, the most challenging and most fun work I’ve ever tried. The learning curve was pretty steep.

Entertaining

As a content newsletter should be. The purpose of a content newsletter is to entertain so I won't be writing stuff that is boring to me and hopefully it won’t be boring to you.

Hyper-Consistent

Wednesdays (paid), Sundays (free) every week with an occasional wild card bonus thrown in.

Here’s what this newsletter will not be…

Teaching Content

For almost 20 years I wrote DIYs, recipes and how-to content for my blog. I do feel like I’ve done enough of that work for several lifetimes. I'm really excited to write different types of content so if you ask me to write a DIY my response will be (in Harry Styles' accent) "Can we not?"

A Replica of my 2011 Blog (or other past eras)

I’m sorry! People often tell me they have a big nostalgia for some part of my past content, but I can't be someone I'm not anymore. And even if I could, it doesn’t inspire me.

Some elements of old school blogging still appeal to me. I miss long form content and sharing photography. I don't actually want to go back in time. The current era is full of interesting stones to turn over. Onward, always!

Written by AI

Let’s make it an official policy here: you won’t get anything written by AI. Nothing makes my mind wander faster than reading a paragraph written by a chatbot. I’m not wholly against AI (never becoming an extremist, about anything, is one of my core values) however, it seems like common sense to keep AI out of art spaces.

Free vs. Paid Expectations

I’m offering three tiers to subscribers- click here to upgrade.

Free subscribers (if you received this email, that’s already you!) will get my Studio Sunday email every Sunday. It'll be my weekly creative updates along with a 10 Things I’m enjoying list.

Paid subscribers will get the Sunday email and a long form email on Wednesdays that dives into subjects I'm passionately curious about. Choose between yearly and monthly pricing. Here are a few subjects from my upcoming list: my 2026 vision board, a tour of my home inspiration library, and a peek inside my journals.

The Gold Star is the highest-tier, just for enthusiasts! Gold star members will receive a 5×7 original piece of artwork by mail with a personalized thank you note from me. The first season’s art pieces are swans. Each one is a little different.

All paid subscribers will get full access to my archives (I pre-wrote 4 posts as a thank you for subscribing).

Thank you for being here! I appreciate you. And if you're not into it, feel free to unsubscribe (I never check the list of who opts out). This newsletter is only for people who want to be here. So if that's you—welcome!
