Our snow week was slow and weird. In my home we celebrated our daughter’s birthday, grieved the news in Minneapolis, watched three old Christopher Nolan movies and cooked every meal at home. Our thermostat broke. I listened to my kid talk about Pokemon and tried to be productive. It was a month-long week.

1. The Prestige
Out of the three Christopher Nolan movies I marathoned this past week I think I loved The Prestige most. I hadn’t watched it since it came out (a million years ago) and it was a lot of fun. I’m going to read the book next because I read they are similar stories with different themes.
2. Ted Talks
I watched three Ted Talks this week in an attempt to spark hope and they were all duds for me. I’d love to hear your favorites that you couldn’t stop thinking about or that changed your life, even in the smallest way. I love the twenty minute format but the volume of talks is overwhelming. Send me your favorites?

3. Etsy Journals
I love this set of journals from Etsy: Classified Information, Passive-Aggressive Fan Fiction, Strange Ideas & Impure Thoughts.
4. A Craft Book
Currently reading The Long Game: Notes on Writing Fiction and enjoying it so far.

5. “I think the success of my work stems from being truthful.” -Catherine O’Hara
Rest in Peace Catherine O’Hara. We love you so much.
6. Bra Shopping
Incase you are in the market, this is my favorite bra. I’m not embarrassed to admit I wore a sports bra for five straight years because I didn’t care. But last year I decided to try to find something good and these are great.

7. Making space for art
Last week I moved my studio home and started painting, at home, again. It’s the best feeling ever and the perfect way to begin January.
8. Fallout
I’m watching Fallout with my husband and I’m in love with the fifties backstory scenes and the song selections. I think this is our second video game show (we enjoyed the first season of The Last of Us) for a video game we never played and have zero context for.

9. Mother’s Day Gift Idea
I found these engraved lockets this week and love the idea of customizing pieces with my girls’ art and handwriting.
10. Create the things you wish existed.
This is my mantra for the season. I’m obsessed with making 2026 the most creative year. I want this year to be so full of weird art and poetry and novels, but also short stories and the starts of things that are unhinged and embarrassing and brave. If you want to join me, please do.

Thank you for reading The Lost Arts. Take a look at the archives page for paid posts you missed this month. You can upgrade anytime to unlock them.
